Not how to put food on the table or where to sleep. Financial support to help with living costs would be like an allowance to help out with the same kind of ‘starting out’ expenses all young people face. Is there someone you can always reach out to for advice, or if you get in a jam? Relationships with caring dependable adults give young people a place to turn to for advice, housing and job references, etc. Adult champions will provide the kind of support and relationships that most young people can take for granted. Do you know your neighbours and have the opportunity to participate in community life? Building strong connections with other people in their community gives youth a sense of belonging. Providing opportunities to participate fully in community life through creative, cultural, and volunteer activities will create the space for young people contribute.
